Equipment Maintenance: BEST

BEST (BETA+ Equipment Support and Technology) is a risk-sharing pool which began offering coverage on January 1, 1995, to assist district, county, and nonprofit hospitals in reducing their equipment maintenance costs. Participating hospitals can expect average savings of 25 percent from manufacturer service agreements. In addition to reduced rates, service is prompt, claims are paid quickly, and excess profits are distributed to members by way of a dividend. Since inception, initial savings and dividend distributions represent a total savings of $2.8 million. Since 1999, BEST has also offered preventive maintenance coverage.
